ATLANTA, GA- 18 year-old Atlanta Georgia native, Tyler Edwards scored his first career USAC NorCal Ignite Midget Series victory by winning the second feature at the Fred Gerhardt Classic at Madera Speedway on Saturday night.

Edwards is a member of the Ron Sutton's Winner's Circle program which develops drivers for a career in motorsports. Tyler brings lots of experience to the RSWC team in asphalt oval with a background in NASCAR Late Models, Legend cars and Quarter Midgets.

Edwards_24.jpgEdwards driving the #24 K&N Filters Focus Midget started the weekend off with timing in fourth quick at 14.588 seconds around the fastest third mile track in the west. Heat races and trophy dashes were not scheduled for the division as Edwards next focus was starting the first 30 lap main event fourth on the grid with a straight up start.

Edwards ran consistent in the first 30 lap feature starting fourth and finishing fourth with no position changes. Heading into the second main event Edwards started third on the grid next to teammate Ricky Bowers. On the restart, Edwards was able to jump to the second position passing Colin Milroy on the inside. Tyler Edwards raced the leader hard but clean in the opening laps and was able to set up a good pass for the lead on lap five. As Edwards found himself leading for the first time he began to set his sights on the open track and pull away from the field.

A caution was thrown on lap nine as this bunched Tyler up with the rest of the field. At the green flag Tyler was able to power out to the lead on the restart.  Running consistent laps out front, another caution was thrown on lap 21 just nine laps to the checkered flag. An optimistic Edwards began to get nervous as he had a solid run out front and now the rest of the field were able to bunch up. On the restart Edwards jumped to a quick lead once again and drove away to a comfortable 1.016 second advantage to take the convincing win over Bryant Dawson to claim his first USAC Ignite Midget win.

Next up for Edwards is race number eleven and twelve "Hot August Nights of Racing" August 18th at Stockton 99 Speedway.
